Canada's Blue Jays Earn World Series Showdown With Los Angeles Dodgers
George Springer previously helped the Astros securing the championship in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their maiden Fall Classic since 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the final seventh game of the ALCS.
Down 3-1, the star outfielder hit a three-run home run in the seventh, leading the only Canadian franchise in the majors to a 4-3 series win in the seven-game series. Next up are the defending champions, the team that is the current crown, in the anticipated Fall Classic.
"It's incredible for this squad, our city, Canada," said Springer, a key player of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 title. "This is such an incredible feeling."
The veteran has now slugged twenty-three playoff homers, making him third on the list behind Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).
"It's hard to imagine another player on planet Earth that I'd choose in that spot other than him with his October magic," remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the only MLB franchise never to appear in a Fall Classic.
Manager Dan Wilson commented "certainly that it hurts" after his team's loss at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their work in the campaign.
"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of this game," he continued.
Toronto's team secured the title on their two prior appearances in 1992 and 1993, and will welcome the Los Angeles in game one on Friday.
