Homages Pour In for the Reiners as Autopsy Reports Face a Security Hold.
Well beyond 14 days after the tragic deaths of celebrated filmmaker Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, the entertainment community are still paying respects to the duo.
A Heartfelt Farewell: Cary Elwes Pays Tribute to His Director
Writing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who was featured in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, mentioned he only now felt prepared to express about his deep grief.
"Adequate time has gone by that I can finally express my sorrow into words," shared Elwes, adding that his introductory moment with Reiner created an instant bond. "When we commenced spending more time together I knew this was someone I wanted in my life."
The actor shared behind-the-scenes footage from the production, commenting that he cannot recall "a single day without joy".
"The film is about affection, allegiance and giving. Things that Rob cherished deeply. This is one of the many reasons he was the perfect person to guide it," Elwes continued.
He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, saying: "Asserting that they were a great team would be an understatement. My heart still hurts every time I recall you." He concluded with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Colleague and Comrade
In a separate essay, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese shared memories of Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"Right away, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was very funny and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese wrote.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's acting part in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, portraying the father of the main character.
"He could improvise with the best. He was a expert at comedy, he worked beautifully with the cast, and he understood the human predicament of his character," Scorsese added.
Court Proceedings: Autopsy Reports Withheld
In a new development, a Los Angeles superior court judge ruled to block the disclosure of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, after an appeal from the LAPD.
A legal directive put a restriction on the files to prohibit the public release of "any investigative information, notes, reports or photos" pertaining to the active case.
The coroner's office had previously confirmed their deaths were the consequence of homicide, with a official listing noting the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
Response and Criticism
In the wake of the deaths, public figures offered divergent responses.
Former President Donald Trump commented on the matter, making divisive remarks that were broadly criticized by many commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan contributed his voice to the those speaking out last week. Talking on his program, Rogan characterized the statements as "disappointing" and implied they showed a concerning lack of empathy.
Rogan concluded by suggesting that an adviser should have stepped in when the choice to speak on the passing was made.
