Jennifer Lawrence Expresses Mentioning Donald Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Tearing the Country Apart
Lawrence has expressed that she finds it inappropriate fitting to speak out against the Trump presidency, worried it could intensify divisive discussions and increase separation within the country.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Says the Actress
During a discussion, she commented, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I thought I was running around in a panicked state. But experience has shown, over multiple voting cycles, public figures have no real impact whatsoever on electoral choices.”
The actor went on, “So then what am I doing? I’m just expressing personal views on a matter that’s going to worsen tensions that’s ripping the country apart.”
Shifting Views
Lawrence has admitted freely about supporting right and leftwing contenders throughout her life. Brought up by conservative Republicans in her home state, she supported the Republican nominee in 2008 before joining the Democratic party and stating she realized during President Obama’s term that supporting the GOP was voting against her own rights as a woman.
Earlier Remarks
Earlier in her career, she remarked that Trump winning the presidency might signal “a disaster” and endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential race. More recently, she gave her endorsement to the Democratic nominee, “because I think she’s an amazing candidate and I know that she will make every effort to defend women’s health rights.”
Industry Position
Lawrence was aligned with many in the entertainment industry in her rejection of the former president as a candidate for re-election, but the lack of leverage stars have over the voting intentions was highlighted by Trump’s victory.
“Another four years feels different,” commented she of his administration. “Since he said what he was going to do. We understood his record for four years. He was explicit. And that’s what we chose.”
Current Projects
The actor is highlighting her new film, Lynne Ramsay’s project in which she portrays a new mother who struggles with her emotional state in the countryside. During a interview session for the movie in Venice, Lawrence spoke about Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s horrifying. What’s taking place is equivalent to a humanitarian crisis and it’s awful.”
Additional Thoughts
Lawrence added by expressing that she was disheartened by “the lack of civility in the discussions of American politics at present and how that is going to be commonplace to the younger generation today. It’s going to be normal to them that leaders are untruthful.”
Lawrence sought to redirect outrage about the issue to decision-makers rather than actors and artists. “Stay focused on the people in charge,” she advised, which was interpreted as a allusion to the recent commitment signed by thousands of arts community members to boycott Israeli film institutions.
Relatable Experiences
The actor, who won an Oscar early in her career for her role in the acclaimed film, is attracting awards attention for her portrayal in her latest project. Even though Ramsay has rejected the plot being seen as one of maternal mental health issues and psychosis, the actress revealed that she did relate to parts of her film narrative after the delivery of her youngest child, soon after shooting ended.
“There was concern about my child,” she explained, “envisioning every negative outcome, and then second-guessing everything that I was trying. I was receiving counseling, but I began using a drug called the prescription and I continued it for 14 days and it made a difference.”
Professional Experiences
The actor also mentioned of the empowering aspect of filming without clothes in the film while she was expecting and couldn’t work out.
“There’s a freedom,” she said, regarding the need to cast off vanity. “Honestly, I do have moments where I’m like, What technically are the differences between me and a prostitute? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
