Manchester United Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be building positive momentum.
Recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional business:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
