The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight season.

The 27-year-old secured four tournament victories – the most on tour – including retaining the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth career Grand Slam singles title.

A Season of High Performance

Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka competed in a circuit-leading nine finals, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.

The Belarusian also claimed victory at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the entire year as the top-ranked player, ending 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.

In July, she became the first player to top 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.

Historic Achievements

Sabalenka finished the season with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and earned a record eleven million pounds in earnings.

She garnered almost 80% of the votes cast by global tennis journalists.

On 28 December, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "elevate women's tennis to a new level".

Additional WTA Award Winners

• Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking 13-month break after the arrival of her first child and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
• Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko received the award after beginning the season positioned outside the world's top 300 and soaring to the eighteenth spot.
• Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after securing their second Grand Slam title as a pair.
• Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after reaching five championship matches.

Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as the fan favorite for a third consecutive time.
