Edwards and O'Neil are two of the early candidates in the frame to replace Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was sacked on Sunday following the squad's 10-match without a victory start to the Premier League season.

And Edwards and O'Neil - each of whom have previous associations to the club - are part of the options to be considered by the club leadership.

Edwards is currently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a possible hurdle to his hiring at Molineux.

However the former Luton manager - who made over a century of appearances for Wolves during his playing career - is said to be a strong contender for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys support from the Wolves directors as they start the search of appointing a new head coach.

Gary O'Neil is additionally emerging as a unexpected contender, although he would be a surprising appointment given he was released by Wolves in December last year.

The ex- West Ham player is currently unemployed which means the club would not need to provide any compensation.
