Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it's understandable for doubts to be asked about his future after another heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth loss in twelve games, representing the club's worst run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I have got plenty of support from above,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to change things and earn three points of course but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I accept my position. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Discussions with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal exchanges I feel the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Issues and Player Response
The manager expressed regret over familiar weaknesses from his squad in their European defeat, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side going through a period of this nature with performances this poor.”
Jones stated, “However we still have the crest on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all again what this club is about and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
