The Game UN:Me: A Cerebral Thriller Merging Survival Horror with Among Us Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs digital showcase revealed several fascinating future games, but one especially has seized attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience appears to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.

"It's a unique experience where a girl harboring several personalities inside her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the mind," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of high school age. Within her exist four distinct souls, each with unique fears and motivations. These entities can take over spontaneously, unleashing their innermost phobias upon her without warning.

Based on showcased gameplay, much of the narrative unfolds within a eerie hospital, though other scenes show the main character navigating a abandoned church.

A World of Individual Dread

"What are you afraid of? What causes you uneasy?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. People in power. Elements that seem trivial to other people can activate a deep instinct inside us. This game explores that idea — fears that are specific to every individual."

The core gameplay loop involves controlling the persona that surfaces at a particular moment. However, these souls will switch involuntarily as you play. While exploring, every persona's anxieties become exaggerated and attack the girl one after another. As the persona changes, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Unsettling Visuals and a Deadly Decision

Initially, UN:Me displays noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is filled with nurses who all share the same face, with unnervingly wide smiles. Patients in the waiting room have enormous flowers growing from their heads should be. Floral motifs are an ever-present element, juxtaposing natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular mechanic. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the heroine is the "true" one. "All four souls claims that the physical form is rightfully them," notes a creator. "During the game, you must determine who is authentic."

After a player believes a soul is fake, they must eliminate it. But, since every entity can deceive or obfuscate the reality, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the real [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The last one remaining might be a fake. Either way, your choices are irreversible."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced release date, but it is available to wishlist on platforms.
